A town hall leader today paid a heartfelt tribute to a “dedicated and long-serving” former mayor who has died.
Alderman Charles Stebbing, Mayor of Wyre from 1982 to 1983, died on December 2, aged 90, at the Owls Residential Home on St Annes Road, Blackpool.
Coun Peter Gibson, the leader of Wyre Council, today said he would be “sadly missed”.
He added: “Honorary Alderman Charles Stebbing was a dedicated and long-serving councillor for Hardhorn ward and a previous Mayor of Wyre.
“He always served his community with dedication and great humour, and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.”
Following his term of office as mayor, Mr Stebbing was named deputy mayor in 1992.
A tribute posted in The Gazette this week read: “Reunited with his late wife Josephine after only seven months apart, and dearly missed as a loving daddy of Julie, dear father-in-law of Georgie and much loved grandad of Golda and Chavala.
“Charles will be sadly missed by all his loving family and many friends.”
A funeral was held at St Chad’s Church today, followed by committal at Park Crematorium, Lytham.
