The travellers moved onto North Promenade Car Park with five caravans, a camper van and accompanying vehicles on May 28.

Anita Elliott, prosecuting for Fylde Council, said the travellers had taken up approximately 40 spaces and refused to pay any parking fees.

Ms Elliott added: “There were 12 children running about unsupervised, five males and five females and two dogs, one chained and the other running about.

“There were numerous complaints about noise, close proximity to residential properties, disruption to the car park, late night movements and the visual impact of the unauthorised encampment.

“It was causing a significant safety risk. Deckchairs obstructed the exit and cars had to swerve round them.”

The prosecutor said the travellers spokesperson was initially pleasant but failed to carry out a promise to move the caravans. The travellers’ attitude was described as being rude and abusive after they were advised not to block-up toilets on the site.

The prosecutor said: “It has deprived regulars and holidaymakers over the Bank Holiday of using the site. The site is surrounded by toys, bikes, washing facilities, clothing on rails, tables and chairs.”

The travellers were given until noon on May 30 to leave the site, but they did not do so.

Blackpool magistrates granted the eviction order.

Council staff will now move to clear the prime holiday site.
