Trapped monkey sparks emergency call out

A monkey trapped in a drain sparked an emergency call out in Marton, say fire services.

Crews from South Shore were called to Newhouse Road where the privately owned monkey was stuck in a drain just before 1am on August 30.

Firefighters say that the monkey which is believed to be a Geoffroy’s marmoset went missing after it escaped from its enclosure and had been missing since around 5pm.

A spokesman for the fire service said: "We were called out to reports of a baby monkey stuck in a drain.

"The monkey had been missing for several hours and was located by its owner in an outside drain in the road.

"Crews managed to get the monkey out quickly."

The monkey is believed to be unharmed.
