A PENSIONER has lost her fight for life after being involved in a car crash.

Annie Smith, 87, from Ashton, Preston, died yesterday following the incident close to the Bell and Bottle pub on the A583 at Newton at 5.50pm on Saturday.

The pensioner suffered serious injuries in the crash between a Land Rover Discovery travelling towards Blackpool and a Kia Picanto.

Mrs Smith was the front seat passenger in the Kia – not as police initially reported the Land Rover. The drivers of both vehicles were unharmed.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward and call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

Sgt Dave Hogarth, from Lancashire Police’s road policing unit, said, “I would appeal to anyone who was in the area and who witnessed the incident to come forward and contact the police.”
