Amounderness Way in Fleetwood was closed this afternoon (June 11) after a car caught fire between the 'Fisherman's Friend' and Eros roundabouts.

Police said the fire was not suspicious and was not the result of a crash, but officers attended to divert traffic whilst firefighters tackled it.

Earlier, a spokesman for Highways said: "The A585 Amounderness Way in Fleetwood, Lancashire is closed southbound between the A587 and B5268.

"This is due to a car which has caught fire. The incident is located between the Three Lights Roundabout and the Eros Roundabout.

"There is road surface damage which will require repair once the vehicle has been recovered."

The incident had been affecting traffic heading between Fleetwood Nautical Campus and the docks, but returned to normal at around 1.40pm.

Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service has been approached for comment.
