These are all the road closures due to blaze at Central Pier

A number of roads had to be shut around Blackpool Prom after a blaze broke out at Central Pier this morning (Friday, July 17).

The Prom was closed for half a mile between New Bonny Street (Coral Island) and Manchester Square, but this has now been lifted.

The junction with Chapel Street had also been closed whilst emergency services remained at the scene, but this too is now open.

The fire started in the early hours of this morning and the roads remain closed for investigation.

Ten fire crews were called to the scene where pictures showed flames rising from the 150-year-old pier.

Motorists had been advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes this morning, but all traffic is now moving freely again.

Blackpool Transport Services 1 and 11 had been diverted in both directions with the northbound going via Rigby Rd, Central Dr and New Bonny St and the southbound via Adelaide St, Central Dr and Rigby Rd.

But the Promenade has now re-opened and services 1 and 11 are now back to their normal routes.
