A teenager was taken to hospital with head injuries after being hit by a car in Blackpool last night.

Whitecliffe Drive, in Layton, was closed by police after a 17-year-old boy was knocked over by a Citroen Xsara Picasso.

A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: “We received a call at 5.50pm from the ambulance service, who reported a male casualty.

“He had head injuries and was initially unconscious but later came round.

“He was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital and fortunately his injuries were not as serious as first thought.”

The road was closed for two hours and traffic diversions were put in place. Police are not investigating the incident.
