A man has been taken to hospital with suspected back injuries following a two car crash in Blackpool, say police.

Fire and ambulance services were called to the scene of the accident on East Park Drive at around 6.30am this morning (August 31).

Firefighters used specialist cutting equipment to remove the man, who is believed to be in his 50s, from his Toyota.

The man was then taken to hospital with "non-life threatening" injuries.

Police are now trying to trace the second car involved in the accident.

A spokesman for Lancashire police said: "Enquiries are commencing and we are trying to trace the other vehicle which is described as a small, dark coloured sports car."

The road was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident but police say it is expected to be open by 8.30am.
