United Utilities is expected to begin a pipe-laying programme in St Annes Road, South Shore, from Monday, March 26, with work set to last for three weeks close to the junction with Highfield Road.

There will be a 'lane closure' in place while it is done, the council said, with the work described as 'major'.

United Utilities said the road will become one-way only - south-bound - while the work is done.

It urged motorists to leave extra time for their journeys.

The water firm is building an underground storage tank in nearby Fishers Field to hold excess storm water, and is installing new sections of pipe from its Lennox Gate pumping station to connect the tank to the existing sewer system.

The pumping station is also being upgraded.
