An elderly man has died in hospital after being hit by a car on a busy Wyre road.
Police closed Amounderness Way in both directions at Poulton following the incident, which took place near the River Wyre pub shortly before 7pm on Saturday.
The 86-year-old pedestrian, said to be local, was taken to Royal Preston Hospital where he died on Sunday morning.
A police spokesman said: “We are supporting his family at this sad time.”
Police said the man was involved in a collision with an Audi A3 appealed for any witnesses to come forward.
Sgt James Power, from the road policing unit, said, “I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and who witnessed what happened to come forward and contact the police.
“The man is in a critical condition in hospital and an investigation is underway to establish exactly what happened.”
The road was closed for three hours between the Norcross and Wyre roundabouts to allow accident investigation work to take place.
