Blackpool Council has scooped a national prize for its Project 30 work to repair potholes across the town.

The £30m scheme has been praised for its “proactive” approach to road management at the Chartered Institute for Highways and Transport awards.

Bloomfield, Clifton, Anchorsholme, Victoria and Hawes Side wards have all been finished, and roads in Talbot, Stanley, Ingthorpe, Claremont and Tyldesley are close to being finished.

Coun John Jones, cabinet member for transport and highways, said: “The standard of Blackpool’s roads at the end of the project will be as good as anywhere else in country and other authorities are already speaking to us about how they can replicate our scheme in their towns.”
