A pensioner is being treated in hospital for serious head injuries after he was involved in a collision with a car.

The 65-year-old, from Thornton, was walking down the unlit drive of Hoghton Tower on Saturday night when he collided with the Peugeot 307 at 10.40pm.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene, in Hoghton, and it was initially believed the man’s injuries were minor, however his condition declined rapidly during the weekend and he is now in Preston Royal Hospital.

Sgt Malcolm Bell, senior investigating officer from the Road Policing Unit, said: “I am appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and who witnessed what happened to come forward and contact the police.

“The victim was attending an event at the venue and I am sure many others were and I would appeal to people who have information to come forward and get in touch.”

Call police on 101.
