Part of Warley Road to be made one-way from TOMORROW

A stretch of busy road in North Shore will be made one-way while resurfacing work is carried out, the council said.

For around two weeks from tomorrow, cars will only be able to drive down Warley Road, from its junction Devonshire Road to Warbreck Hill Road.

Motorists travelling the other way will be diverted, head of highways and traffic management Will Britain said in a letter to residents.

Side roads in the street will be shut 'as and when necessary, when works are taking place at their junction with Warley Road', he added.

Drivers have also been asked to keep the road clear of parked vehicles to allow the work to be done. The street is a popular spot for parking for civil servants working nearby.

Mr Britain said people will be able to get to their homes at all times, and warned residents of bogus workers.

"The contractor appointed ... has been instructed to work only on the highway," he said.

"Should you be approached during the course of the works by anyone claiming to be from the contractor with regard to work within the boundary of your property, you should first establish their identity and contact the highways department.

"May I take this opportunity to thank you, in advance, for your co-operation whilst these essential maintenance works are being undertaken."

The surface of Warley Road worsened while Crossley's Bridge was shut from November 2016 until last spring, when diverted motorists used it as a rat-run.

Workers patched up potholes, but more work was needed. Mr Britain said it should be done in 'approximately two weeks ... subject to weather conditions'.
