MOTORISTS can expect a month of delays when a £360,000 maintenance scheme along the M55 gets under way on November 19.
Work on the scheme, which will cover three quarters of a mile of the carriageway between Junctions 3 at Kirkham and Junction 4 at Blackpool, is due to be completed by December 19.
The project involves improving maintenance access and hardening the central reservation to remove the need for routine grass cutting.
The work will reduce the frequency of maintenance visits to the central reservation – which it is claimed will cut costs, boost safety and reduce the inconvenience of future lane closures for maintenance to motorway users.
It will be taking place around the clock with lane three closures and a 50mph speed limit in place for the safety of motorway users and roadworkers.
Overnight closures of a short section of the carriageway running under the A583 Preston New Road roundabout at Junction 4 are also possible.
Traffic using the A5230 into or out of Blackpool will need to use the roundabout instead to leave or join the M55, said highways chiefs.
