A lifeboat was launched to help a stranded yacht with two people onboard when it was caught out by the falling tide.

Lytham St Annes lifeboat was sent to the scene in the Ribble Estuary at 3.30pm on Tuesday when the vessel, sailing from Preston Marina, was left stranded crossing Foulnaze Bank.

The RNLI checked the safety of the two crew and was forced to re-launch at 6pm when the flood tide reached the yacht and the lifeboat was able to escort it to safety.

Matt Daniels, a member of Lytham St Annes lifeboat, said: “The wind fortunately didn’t increase as early as forecast so we had no problems safely re-floating the yacht and getting the two people on their way back to Preston Marina.”

Nobody on the yacht was injured and the vessel returned safely to its port in Preston.
