An elderly man was taken to hospital suffering serious injuries after a head on collision between two cars.

Ribby Road, Wrea Green, was blocked off by police after two cars collided just after 1pm on Wednesday.

Air ambulance, ambulance and police were called to the scene and a 70-year-old male driver, who was unconscious at the scene, was taken to Preston Royal Hospital by the helicopter.

A second casualty was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital by ambulance.

Four cars were damaged in the incident; a silver Mercedes, a Honda Civic, a Range Rover Evoque and a BMW - all but the BMW remained at the scene for investigation while the council was called in to clear oil from the road.

The road was reopened to traffic at 4.30pm.
