THE emergency services were out in force urging drivers to stay safe this Christmas.
Using a car badly damaged in a road accident, police, fire and ambulance crews showed people the potential dangers of risky driving during the festive season.
Police, special constables, firemen and paramedics spoke to shoppers in Blackpool town centre on Saturday afternoon, alerting them to the risks of drink driving or driving too soon after a night out drinking, and also overloading their car and driving carelessly.
The Peugeot, stationed on Bank Hey Street and Church Street in the town centre, bore damage from an impact caused by dangerous driving, including a smashed windscreen and crumpled bonnet.
Jon Charters, service delivery manager at Blackpool Fire Station, said: “The car highlights the dangers of drink driving.
“This is aimed at educating young drivers, they think ‘it won’t happen to me’ but unfortunately it does.”
