To help bring some further Christmas cheer to town centres, Wyre Council has also dedicated more than £18,000 of festive lights funding to help Wyre’s town and village centres sparkle this Christmas.

The festive lights funding is available for Fleetwood, Cleveleys, Thornton, Poulton, Hambleton, Knott End/Preesall and Garstang and although light switch on events have had to be cancelled, some town centres are running a virtual switch-on online.

Councillor Roger Berry, Neighbourhood Services and Community Safety Portfolio Holder at Wyre Council comments, “As we move back into tiered system after lockdown ends on 2 December, we look forward to shops on our high streets reopening and this free parking offer will go some way towards giving businesses a much needed boost. Wyre has lots of shops ready and waiting to welcome you back and your support can make all the difference.

“We’re also doing everything we can to work with community groups who put on the Christmas lights in town centres and villages across the borough. It is really important this year to raise the spirits of the community whilst keeping everyone safe.

“I would urge everyone to continue to stick to guidance set out by government when visiting our town centres, keep your distance from others, wear a face covering and remember to wash your hands."
