Four miles of congestion on M6 between Preston and Lancaster after collision closes two lanes

Motorists using the M6 in between Lancaster and Preston could expect delays of up to an hour following a collision on the motorway.

Highways England reported that two lanes on the motorway were closed on the southbound between junction 33 (Galgate) and junction 32 (Broughton interchange) following the crash just after 6pm.

The lane closure has caused four miles of congestion and delays of up to an hour.

Traffic officers and Lancashire Road Police were at the scene to assist with traffic and recovery of the crashed vehicles. It's not been reported how many vehicles or type are involved in the collision.

A spokesman for Highways England said: "If travelling in Lancashire near Lancaster please be aware there are long delays on the M6 southbound due to this collision. There are approx four miles of congestion back to Galgate which is likely to add 45-60mins onto usual travel times. Kendal and Carlisle motorists should plan ahead."
