RNLI crews have released footage of the rescue of a woman who was feared to be drowning off the Blackpool coast.

The amazing film shows the speed in which volunteer crews from the charity’s Blackpool base launch and reach the casualty.

The 26-year-old local woman had been walking on the beach when she was stranded on a sandbank opposite Uncle Tom’s Cabin by the incoming tide, shortly before 8pm on Tuesday.

The film shows the woman struggling to tread water as crews arrive, who pulled her into the boat before taking her to waiting paramedics on the shore.

Blackpool RNLI volunteer crewmember Jonathon Horrocks said: “The lady had a very lucky escape, by the time we reached her she was totally exhausted and was in very real danger of drowning.”

RNLI bosses hope the footage will serve as a reminder for people to remain vigilant when enjoying the Fylde’s coastline this summer.
