Police had to close a busy road junction after two cars crashed, causing minor injuries to one of the drivers.

The cars, a Citroen C3 and a Citroen Xsara Picasso, collided on St Annes Road at the junction with Squires Gate Lane, outside the Halfway House pub at around 11pm on Saturday.

Police say there was a report of minor injury, though no details were given.

The area was closed for around two hours while police recovered the vehicles.

The collision caused damage to the metal railings on the pedestrian crossing, which have been secured with police tape.
