It is in response to an increase in customer numbers as lockdown restrictions have eased and means there will be more buses available ahead of retail outlets opening on June 15.

Blackpool Transport have been operating a reduced timetable for key workers since April 5 but will now increase the frequency on most routes so that customers can continue to travel safely, following social distancing guidelines.

Jane Cole, managing director at Blackpool Transport, said: “We have been running approximately half of the amount of journeys we would normally operate since April 5, which has meant that customers could make essential journeys as safely as possible. As we slowly see an increase in customer numbers, we will continue to increase the number of journeys so that returning customers can travel us safely, which is our top priority.”

Customer numbers on Blackpool buses are down by around 80 per cent compared to the same period last year and the latest increase in bus services means there will be plenty of space for customers to spread out and travel safely.

The local operator has committed to gradually increase services in line with customer demand moving forward.

Customers returning to bus travel can find detailed information on how to travel safely as well as up to date timetables at www.blackpooltransport.com.
