Blackpool man suffers 'head injuries' in 'serious collision' involving lorry on M6

A 23-year-old Blackpool man and a 19-year-old woman were taken to hospital after a 'serious collision' on the M6.

The M6 was closed for more than two hours while police dealt with a collision involving a car and a lorry.

A Seat Ibiza car was travelling northbound when it collided with a barrier between junctions 27 and 28 at around 12.35am today (March 12).

The vehicle was then involved in a further collision with a HGV.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: "The carriageway was closed for more than two hours while accident investigators attended the scene."

The driver of the Seat, a 23-year-old man from Blackpool, suffered head injuries in the collision.

A 19-year-old woman from Nuneaton, a passenger in the vehicle, also suffered head and chest injuries.

Both were taken to Royal Preston Hospital for treatment.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Firefighters from Chorley and Bamber Bridge alongside one crew from Wigan were called to reports of a collision on the M6 motorway northbound between junction 27 and 28.

"The incident involved a heavy goods vehicle and a car which had hit the central reservation.

"Firefighters used holmatro cutting equipment to extricate a casualty from the car. A further casualty had managed to get themselves out of the vehicle.

"Both casualties were transferred to hospital via ambulance."

Firefighters were at the scene for approximately forty minutes.
