Traffic chaos as route to M55 is shut after crash

Nobody has been seriously hurt in the smash, which happened at the junction with Greenhalgh Lane at around 8.30am, but traffic heading to and from junction three for the M55 has been badly affected.

Writing on Twitter, @kimberleypoyser said she had been stuck for the ‘best part of an hour’, while another user warned other motorists to ‘avoid’ the area.

The fire service was called at 8.26am, a spokesman said, with crews from South Shore and Blackpool using a dry powder extinguisher to make the vehicles safe.

One person was initially trapped but was able to free themselves, he added, while police said one person suffered minor ankle injuries.
