Street sealed off following '˜loud bang'

A Blackpool street was sealed off following concerns about debris falling from a landmark building.

Police put up a cordon at the corner of Bank Hey Street and Adelaide Street at around 2.25pm today.

The alert came after a loud bang was heard close to the Tower, sparking concerns a piece of plant equipment had fallen from the Victorian building.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said: “We were called by a member of the public who was concerned something might have fallen onto Bank Hey Street.

“We contacted the site owners and put a cordon in place near to the Sports Direct store.

“Having spoken with the site supervisor it was determined that nothing had fallen from the building and there was no danger.

“The cordon has now been lifted.”

Lancashire Fire and Rescue said a crew from Blackpool Fire Station had been sent to Bank Hey Street.

However fire crews were stood down at 2.40pm.

Bank Hey Street has been re-opened.
