Police appeal after injuries in horror crash

Police have launched an appeal for witnesses to a rush hour crash which left one man seriously injured.

A driver had to be cut from his car by firefighters following the collision at the junction of Progress Way and Midgeland Road at 6pm on Tuesday, as first revealed by The Gazette.

Officers say a 51-year-old man driving a Hyundai had collided with four cars close to traffic lights.

A 58-year-old man driving a Vauxhall Astra suffered a suspected neck injury and cut to the head and was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital for treatment. He was also treated for suspected broken ribs.

A 28-year-old man driving a Mitsubishi Outlander, a 58-year-old man driving a Ford Mondeo and the male driver of a Mercedes aged 37 all suffered whiplash and lower back injuries in the accident.

The driver of the Hyundai was uninjured. The road was closed for four hours while accident investigators carried out work at the scene

Sgt Tracey Ward, of Lancashire Police, said: “We are appealing for information following a collision involving several cars close to the junction of Progress Way and Midgeland Road in Blackpool.

“The collision happened on a busy road and we believe several motorists will have witnessed this incident.”
