Coastguard rescuers were called out at around 1.30am, while lifeboat volunteers from the RNLI were also paged, though they were stood down and did not need to launch after police officers walked the man, in his 40s, out.

He was put in an ambulance alongside a friend, close to the lifeboat station near to Central Pier, before being taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital for a check-up.
