Christine Maher, 74, was found dead at around 9.55am on Wednesday, March 8, when emergency services were called to the sand opposite the New Mayfair Hotel, between the mirror ball and Starr Gate tram depot.

A post-mortem examination was later carried out before police ruled the death as non-suspicious and passed a file to the coroner.

Coastguard workers from Lytham were among the emergency services on the beach, and helped secure the scene and search for evidence. They then helped transport the body to a private ambulance.
