TRADERS are dreaming of a bumper festive season after being handed an early Christmas present.

Fylde Council has announced it will once again offer town centre shoppers free car parking in all its car parks this December – and business leaders are delighted by the news.

Robert Silverwood, vice-chair of Lytham Business Partnership, said: “It puts us on a level playing field with other towns that offer free parking. We can’t have it all the time, which we would love because parking in Lytham is expensive, so we’ve got to be grateful for what they do give us.

“It’s a big boost because it means people can relax, have a meal and do some shopping stress-free.”

The council will offer the free parking in all council-run car parks on the weekends of December 10 and 11 and December 17 and 18, and Saturday, December 24.

Council leader Coun David Eaves said: “The council has agreed to continue with free car parking in town centres at Christmas.

“We’ve offered this for the last two years and it has been very popular with residents and retailers.

“We recognise the importance of small businesses in the area’s towns and we want to encourage shoppers to spend their money locally.”
