Trade showcase

TWO friends have set up their own business with the aim to help local traders and local charities at the same time.

Ruth Adler, from St Annes and Deborah Azern, of Lytham, got together to set up The green purse events company.

And the first event will raise money for a cause close to their hearts – the Denise Hendry Foundation. Ruth, a mum-of-three, said the women started up their own business after realising there was a gap in the market.

She said: “We felt there wasn’t really anything in this area to showcase exclusive small traders and help local charities at the same time.

“We wanted to create events which would provide a shopping experience, but with lots of other things going on. Our first fashion gift and beauty fair is being held at the Clifton Arms Hotel, in Lytham, on Sunday, July 3.

“There will be a variety of stalls selling a range of exclusive goods at very competitive prices.

“Also on offer will be complementary mini hair and beauty treatments.

“It will just be a nice, fun afternoon with a chance to shop.”

“Our first event will be supporting the Denise Hendry Foundation. We want to help other local charities too, such as Trinity and Brian House.”

Both Ruth and Deborah were friends of Denise Hendry – wife of former Blackpool FC manager Colin Hendry – and her family, and said they wanted to help the charity, set up by her daughter Rheagan to help those left with physical or psychological scars by negligence, pre or post cosmetic surgery.

Mum-of-four Denise was left with horrendous injuries in 2002 after botched liposuction surgery at the private Broughton park clinic, in Preston.

She endured several corrective operations and finally contracted meningitis and died at Salford Royal Hospital.

Ruth said: “We just felt it would be nice to help out by raising funds for the charity. Rheagan has done so well with setting it all up, and she is a lovely girl.

“It’s a really good cause, a new charity highlighting the needs for awareness for support for families who have suffered medical negligence and don’t know where to turn after the devastating effects surgery has caused.”

Tickets for the July 3 event, which takes place between noon and 4pm, cost £3 and include a gift bag and raffle ticket. For more details, call Ruth on 07831 266 007 or Deborah on 07813 328 767.
