Town set for fun galore

Kites, bands, a charity run and the RNLI's open day will all combine for an extravaganza of fun and fund-raising in St Annes next weekend, July 30 and 31

While the fifth annual St Annes Kite Festival takes place on the beach on both days, Ashton Gardens will be reverberating to a vast of array of musical entertainment.

Meanwhile, Trinity Hospice’s Colour Splash run takes place on North Beach from Starr Gate on the Saturday, with the Sunday featuring the annual open day at Lytham St Annes RNLI’s seafront boathouse, put back for the first time to coincide with the Kite Festival.

Thousands of visitors are expected to swell the coffers of local businesses and St Annes Chamber of Trade co-ordinator Arnold Sumner said: “What a great weekend it promises to be – we are all really looking forward to it.”

The Kite Festival will include music on the beach as well as a samba parade to the RNLI boathouse on the Sunday, while the Ashton Gardens entertainment runs from 1pm into the evening on both days as well as from 5pm on the Friday. A total of 22 acts will feature, including St Annes-based The Coustics, who will be on stage at 7pm on the Sunday.

Liam McKenzie, of The Coustics, said: “There’s so much talent around the St Annes and Fylde area and it’s great to have such a focal point as Ashton Gardens to put all this local talent together. It’s going to be a great weekend, something the locals should embrace, and we’re really looking forward to it.”
