Town all set for nostalgia

A host of exciting features are promised as the clock is turned back seven decades on The Green.

From the dark days of Dunkirk to D-Day and victory in Europe and Asia, the Festival will comprise two packed days of entertainment, re-enactment and have-a-go fun, featuring historic vehicles, music and dance, memorabilia, thrilling battles, educational talks and demonstrations, plus a living history camp.

While The Green will be the base for a host of displays and activities from 10am to 5pm on both days, a parade of vintage vehicles will pass through town from noon,  also on both days and a full programme in the entertainment marquee will be supported by a new feature of a vintage bar. Coun Sue Fazackerley, Fylde Council cabinet member for Leisure and Culture, said: “The Wartime Weekend is now an established highly-popular tourism event for

Fylde, attracting around 30,000 visitors. The crowds seem to grow every year.

“This year, in addition to our usual displays and entertainment, we are promoting ‘RAF Lytham’ with the touring Spitfire and other RAF-orientated displays. There will also be a flypast on the Saturday.

“It is one of the largest such events in the country – a great day out for all the family.”
