Fylde coast Conservative MPs Mark Menzies and Eric Ollerenshaw helped launch their party’s bid to stay in power after this year’s General

Election as the Tories unveiled their first poster of the campaign.

The image accompanied by key claims about the state of the economy will appear on billboards up and down the country.

Fylde MP Mr Menzies and Fleetwood and Lancaster MP Mr Ollerenshaw were joined by Peter Anthony, who is the Conservative candidate for Blackpool South.

Both the Blackpool seats and Fleetwood will be key battlegrounds in the May General Election.

Mr Menzies said: “The key message is reminding people the economy is on the right track. We have been through four-and-a-half very difficult years to get the economy back on its feet but decisions made in four months’ time will determine whether the economy keeps going in the right direction or whether the wheels come off.”

Prime Minister David Cameron said the election would be one of the most significant ever.

Speaking in Halifax, he said: “I’m here to launch this great poster and to mark the start of an election year.

“It is an absolutely vital election for our country and I think the most important election in a generation.”
