Top sealion trainer to be featured on BBC show
A Blackpool Zoo keeper who is studying the unique characteristics of sealions' whiskers is set to feature in a BBC TV show tonight.
Alyx Milne, who works with the zoo’s family of Californian sealions, won funding to study for her PhD last year, and is delving into how the animals’ whiskers pick up vibrations in the water and air to help them find food.
And viewers of BBC One’s Ingenious Animals, shown at 8pm, will get to learn about the Liverpool-born Manchester Metropolitan University student’s research, which was already won recognition after her Masters degree was published in a journal.
Ms Milne, whose love for marine animals began with a visit to SeaWorld in the US when she was five, was also invited to the International Marine Animal Trainers’ Association conference in the Bahamas last year.
