HORDES of cheering and excited Olympic fans witnessed a historic relay as the prestigious torch arrived in Blackpool.
Delighted residents on the Fylde coast braved torrential rain and strong winds as they lined the streets of the town centre to catch a glimpse of the flame.
Crowds started to gather under the limited shelter on Bank Hey Street hours before paralympian Shelly Woods arrived at Blackpool Tower to make sure they were part of history.
And they were not to be disappointed as the Layton athlete completed the Blackpool leg of the tour on its 35th day travelling the country.
On Saturday the flame will travel from Blackpool into St Annes, Lytham and Warton.
The morning will start at 6am at Royal Lytham and St Annes Golf Club when town crier Colin Ballard officially announces the arrival of the Olympic flame.
It is then expected to arrive at Lytham Windmill at 7.18am.
Bus passengers are advised there will be disruptions to bus services across the weekend.
