A woman said that she felt empowered when she stole items from shops.

Katie Morgan, 21, of Albert Road, Blackpool, pleaded guilty to two offences of shoplifting and two breaches of conditional discharge imposed for theft from stores.

Morgan was sentenced to 35 days rehabilitation supervised by the probation service and fined £50 with £60 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.

Pam Smith, prosecuting, said Morgan was caught after she was seen by a security guard stealing £20 of steak from the resort’s Marks and Spencer by putting it in her handbag on March 26.

On March 30 she was spotted at Debenhams, Blackburn, putting a bottle of aftershave valued at £45 in her handbag.

Stephen Duffy, defending, said there was no suggestion his client had any drugs, drink or gambling problem, which would usually be a person’s reason for shoplifting.

In the report on her by the probation officer there was a reference to Morgan saying she felt empowered when she took items.
