A THORNTON man has admitted attacking a police officer who was arresting him over a theft.

Karl Broadhead, of Elmwood Avenue, also admitted theft and attempted theft.

Julie Fogarty, prosecuting, said the 30-year-old and another man had gone into a newsagents shop where Broadhead stole a bottle of Lucozade.

They returned later and Broadhead was seen on CCTV attempting to steal a container of loose change.

Steven Townley, defending, said his client admitted the assault but came off worst.

The court heard how Broadhead was on licence from a prison term which meant he would face being returned to jail to serve a further eight months with 28 days added to the sentence for the latest offences.
