These are the incidents Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service crews have tackled on the Fylde coast this week - Monday, July 4 to Friday, July 8, 2022

We will update this story each day with the latest from the fire service:

MONDAY, JULY 4

- Commercial building fire in Poulton-le-Fylde

Six fire engines from Blackpool, Bispham, Fleetwood, South Shore and St Annes were called to Beacon Road at around 1.30pm on Monday (July 4).

The command support unit and aerial ladder from Blackburn were also mobilised to help tackle the fire – located at a commercial premises in the industrial estate.

“The incident involved a diesel generator and a large quantity of waste,” a spokesman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said.

“If anyone can see or smell smoke, please close your windows and doors and avoid the area.”

Firefighters used three hose reel jets, the drone unit and the aerial ladder platform to bring the blaze under control.

In an update posted at 5.05pm, the fire service confirmed the incident was under control.

Fire crews would remain at the scene for several hours to check for any hotspots and dampen down the area.

- Domestic building fire in Blackpool

Three fire engines from Wesham, St Annes and Fulwood attended an incident in Lytham Road at around 4.45pm.

The incident involved a fire in the kitchen of a domestic property.

Firefighters wore breathing apparatus and used one hose reel and a ventilation unit to extinguish the flames.

Crews were in attendance for one hour.

TUESDAY, JULY 5

- Outbuilding fire in Fleetwood

Two fire engines from Fleetwood attended an outbuilding fire in Carr Road at around 5.40am.

Firefighters used one hose reel to extinguish the flames.

Crews were in attendance for 40 minutes.

- Car towing inflatable speed boat on trailer lands on its side after two-vehicle crash in Fleetwood

One fire engine from Fleetwood attended a road traffic collision in Fleetwood Road at around midday on Tuesday (July 5).

A picture from the scene showed the crash involved two cars, one of which was towing an inflatable speed boat on a trailer.

Police blocked off the road as the car and trailer were recovered and emergency crews assessed the damage.

Two casualties also received precautionary checks at the scene before being placed in the care of paramedics.

A spokesman for North West Ambulance Service said: “Two patients were assessed for minor injuries.

“One was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital.”

Fire crews worked to make the area safe and were in attendance for approximately 30 minutes.

The collision occurred near the junction with Larkholme Lane, resulting in heavy traffic in the area as motorists attempted to find alternative routes.

- Domestic building fire in Knott End-on-sea

Two fire engines from Bispham and Preesall attended an domestic building fire in Wyre Side at around 5.10pm.

Firefighters wore breathing apparatus and used one hose reel, a thermal imaging camera and ventilation unit to extinguish the flames.

Crews were in attendance for three hours.

- Kitchen fire in Poulton-le-Fylde

Two fire engines from Blackpool attended a fire kitchen at a domestic property in Longfield Avenue at around 6.45pm.

Firefighters wore breathing apparatus and used one hose reel and a ventilation unit to extinguish the flames.

Crews were in attendance for one hour.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 6

- Woman dies in hospital after fire breaks out at home in South Shore

A fire broke out at a three-storey terraced home in Hill Street, South Shore, at around 12.50am on Wednesday (July 6).

Six fire engines from Blackpool, Bispham, St Annes, Fulwood and South Shore attended as well as Lancashire Police and North West Ambulance Service.

A woman in her 40s was treated at the scene before being taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

“Our thoughts are with her loved ones at this time,” a spokesman for Lancashire Police said.

A number of people managed to escape the property before emergency services arrived.

A man in his 50s was taken to Wythenshawe Hospital where police said he remained in a “serious but stable condition”.

Three other people – aged 26, 13 and 16 – were also taken to hospital but their condition was not described as life threatening.

Another child, aged 15, was uninjured.

Police said an investigation into the cause of the fire was underway but it was “not being treated as suspicious” at this time.

- Domestic building fire in Blackpool

Two fire engines from Blackpool attended a domestic building fire in Handley Road at around 6.30pm.

Firefighters wore breathing apparatus and used two hose reels, two ventilation units, a thermal imaging camera and a gas monitor to extinguish the flames.

Crews were in attendance for approximately three hours.

THURSDAY, JULY 7

- Dog rescued by firefighters after climbing onto roof of apartment building in Cleveleys

Concerned members of the public called 999 after spotting a dog exploring the roof of an apartment building in West Drive on Thursday (July 8).

One fire engine from Fleetwood along with the aerial ladder platform from Blackpool arrived at the scene at around 8.45pm to rescue the stranded dog.

Firefighters managed to successfully reach the dog using the aerial ladder platform before bringing it back to safety and its relieved owner.

“Report of a large pigeon on the roof at Wyre this evening turned out to be a very big dog,” a spokesman for Lancashire Police said.

“Thankfully Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service did an amazing job at rescuing the dog.”

Crews were in attendance for approximately 20 minutes.
