A teenager who was threatening to jump from a motorway bridge was persuaded to step to safety by an off-duty paramedic.
The 19-year-old woman had one leg over the railings above the westbound carriageway of the M55 at junction 4 at 2.15am on Sunday.
The paramedic stopped and talked to the distressed woman before police arrived at the scene.
The M55 was closed in both directions.
She was led to safety at 2.30am when she agreed to step away from the ledge.
A Lancashire Police spokesman said she was taken away by 999 crews to be assessed.
