A Blackpool school has taken the internet by storm with a Christmas music video showing staff rocking out to festive tunes.

Teachers at St George’s School on Cherry Tree Road recorded themselves singing along to Mariah Carey’s Christmas hit ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ while driving through a busy school run.

The video, which was released on December 14, attracted more than 1,000 ‘likes’ and ‘shares’ on Facebook.

It is the fourth in the school’s annual tradition of preparing a special seasonal music video for students to enjoy.

Chris Ibbotson, assistant head teacher at St George’s School, said: “The children love it. We have got children who left the school years ago emailing us back asking us when the Christmas video is going to be out.

“School lessons are quite formal and the video shows that teachers are human beings too at the end of the day. It’s absolutely improved the relationship between the staff and the pupils because it breaks down barriers. Teachers who they would never expect get involved.”

The video was arranged by Gill Mitchell, head of music and performing arts at St George’s School, who first brought the unique idea to the school in 2011.

Mrs Ibbotson said: “When Miss Mitchell first brought up the idea of a Christmas music video we wondered what it was all about. But when we saw the finished product we were wowed and so were the children.

“Everybody loves it and they’re desperate to get in it. You don’t have to ask people twice.”
