Tasty jam and massive tomatoes at annual show

Organisers of the Freckleton Horticultural and Craft Show, which takes place next month, are inviting residents across the Fylde coast to come and take a look at this year’s show.

The event will take place Saturday, September 13 at the Village Hall, School Lane, Freckleton.

And they especially hope to see more 12-16-year-olds 
entering the children’s exhibits category.

Categories such as handwork, arts and crafts, confectionery and preserves will give people of all ages the chance to showcase their talents in baking and flower arranging.

Pauline Mitchell, secretary of the horticulture show committee, said: “We do want to stress that everyone from any town is welcome to the event and we are hoping we can get more children involved and make it even bigger and 
better than its success in previous years.

“With the Great British Bake Off creating such an impact over the years, we hope it will encourage people to get their baking skills in gear and join in.”

The show also has some more unusual categories including the heaviest hen egg, the best cross stitch or embroidered article and even the heaviest tomato.

Children can try their hand at two or more decorative eggs, making of a miniature garden or a CD cover design.

The 7-11-year-old category has challenges including making an imaginative 
animal using only vegetables or recyclable material.

The theme around the 
categories aims to encourage people to recycle and create all things home-made.

The show begins with a staging of exhibits starting at 8am and the show opens at 2pm.

There will be an auction of produce from 4pm onwards.

All entries for all categories need to be submitted by Wednesday, September 10 by filling out an entry form given out at the library or online at www.freckleton.org.

Admission to the show is £1 for adults and children can get in for free.
