A business plan consultation process has been started for the eastern end of the 144 hectare site where a new access road is being planned.

Rob Green, from the Blackpool. Fylde and Wyre Economic Development Company, which is overseeing the enterprise zone project along with its sister site at Hillhouse Thornton, said things were moving apace at the airport.

Two local companies have targeted the site as they expand their business and take on staff.

AC Electrical, which was behind the construction of two new large industrial buildings at Dakota Court off Amy Johnson Way, has moved into one of the units.

Fylde coast accident repair company ARC is set to build a new body shop nearby.

Mr Green said: “We are confident things are moving forward well.

“The master plan has been signed off by both councils, Blackpool and Fylde Borough.

“The airport has also seen quite an uplift in executive jet usage in recent months.

“We are starting consultation over the relocation of the sports fields at the eastern part of the site with the existing tenants and by the back end of the year we hope to be in a position to have the planning application in for the eastern access way to the site.”

The 25-year master plan shows a new access road to the industrial estate at Common Edge Road and a relocation of sports fields and creation of a new sports centre. The site aims to create 3,000 jobs.
