Take-off time for careers with BAE

Blackpool FC’s Bloomfield Road stadium will play host to the event as the aircraft maker looks for next year’s intake of apprentices.

The career opportunities come as BAE unveiled 150 young people who have started training with the global 
organisation this month.

The intake includes 97 engineering and business apprentices and 20 higher apprentices who have begun training at the firm’s training school in Preston and its sites at Warton and Samlesbury, with 53 university graduates on a separate programme.

The engineering apprentices now begin a 12-month training programme which will see them learn skills including machining and computer-aided design, while the business apprentices will learn skills including project management.

New apprentice Lee Williams, 26, of Freckleton, said the opportunities to work overseas was part of the attraction. He arrived having previously tried to make it as a professional golfer.

He said: “My parents both work for BAE Systems in Saudi Arabia, so I know the business .

“I have been out to Saudi to visit them and play golf, so I have seen the opportunities there are out there and that was part of the appeal of an apprenticeship.”

The majority of the apprentices will go on to work in engineering and machining roles in the company behind fighter aircraft including the Eurofighter Typhoon.

The recruitment search event will take place tomorrow, at Blackpool Football Club, between 4pm and 8pm.
