Scores of children are set to take the plunge to raise money for charity.

The first Million Day Water Challenge will take place at Fleetwood Baths on Sunday, September 1 to raise enough money to give families in Malawi one million days of water.

Children under the age of eight will swim 25 metres followed by a 500-metre run, with children over eight swimming 50 metres followed by the run.

The challenge has been organised by Blackpool swimming teacher Luke Helmn.

He set up swimming group Ron’s Squad in memory of his father Ron, an athletics teacher, who suffered from cancer. He hopes the event will encourage local children to become more active as well as raising cash.

Sunday’s event at Fleetwood Baths will be followed by another at the De Vere Hotel in Blackpool on Sunday, September 22. Call Luke on 07514 830849.
