A premier summer festival proved it’s not so much how you start as how you finish.

A cloudy morning turned into a sunny afternoon and what began as a “slow burner” exploded into life as up to 3,000 visitors headed for Guy’s Thatched Hamlet at Bilsborrow.

The annual Lancashire Festival, now in its seventh year, organised by The Gazette and sponsored by Lloyds BMW, had everything from fun rides, costume characters, arts and crafts, children’s fancy dress, face painters, dancers, donkey rides, a choir and other performers, including an Olly Murs tribute act.

“To be honest we were a little bit worried by the weather forecast,” said Sue Bentley, The Gazette’s North West events organiser.

“It started out a bit gloomy in the morning, but by lunchtime it had picked up and the crowds really flocked in. We normally attract between 2,000 and 3,000 each year and, once the weather picked up, we achieved that.

“It’s amazing because we’ve been quite lucky with the weather every year. This time it came good in the end.”

The event was a real family day with plenty for the youngsters and something for the adults too in the shape of some Lancashire ales and a barbecue.

“Guy’s is a great venue for an outdoor event and once again they did us proud,” added Sue.
