STUNNING Stephanie Fretwell is swapping her scrubs for a slinky dress and swimwear to take part in the grand finals of a beauty pageant in two weeks’ time.
And the pretty 23-year-old, from Poulton, is also doing her bit for charity by holding a fundraising night on Thursday.
The former Bispham High School pupil works by day as a theatre nurse, but her other passion is modelling and beauty pageants.
As she studied in Preston, at the University of Central Lancashire, she has fond memories of the city and chose to enter the Miss Preston heats – part of the Miss England competition.
She has made it through to the grand final and is now gearing up to take part in the event on June 3, at the Playhouse.
Stephanie said: “I have always been interested in modelling.
“It’s something which is so different from my work.
“At work, I can’t be glamorous. I can’t wear posh clothes and have my nails done and make-up, but I do get to do that with the beauty pageants.
“I entered Miss Fylde Coast last year and didn’t really know what to expect, but I really enjoyed it.
“It wasn’t really competitive, I met some great girls.
“Everybody was really nice, chatting to each other, helping each other, we all got on really well.
“There was a really nice atmosphere.
“Doing this means you get to meet so many nice people.
“And I love getting involved with the charity work.
“I have organised an event which takes place at The Cube, in Poulton, on Thursday, at 7pm, to raise money for Variety Club Children’s Charity, the charity of Miss England.
“It’s a variety evening, so there will be music, a pole fitness demonstration, other entertainment and a raffle.
“We have some great prizes, including a high speed passenger ride in a Lotus Elise donated by treatme.net.
“It will be a good night out raising money for a good cause.
“It’s been hard work, but definitely worth it.”
Stephanie says she loves her job as an operating department practitioner and she also loves her home town.
She said: “I love working with the public, I love meeting the patients. Every day is different, there is such a variety.
“I help the patients before they go into theatre and look after them in recovery afterwards.
“It’s nice helping them because most people are anxious when they are having surgery.
“I chose to go for Miss Preston because it’s where I went to university and I love it.
“I still have lots of friends there too.
“Of course, I love my home town of Poulton as well. It’s such a lovely place, it has a great atmosphere and a really nice sense of community.
“I’m hoping people from my home town will get behind me for the contest.”
