The 12-day trip, which takes place in July, will see the students staying in a guesthouse in the country’s capital of Kathmandu.

From the soaring steps of Swayambunath, the capital’s infamous monkey infested temple, to the Hindu temples of Pashupatinath and
Dakhisnkali and the Pharping Tibetan Buddhist monastery, the group will experience the different religions and cultures in Nepal.

The students will also take part in a four-day teaching project at Shubhakamana Academy.

Jess Anderton, a design technology teacher at St Mary’s who helps coordinate the trip, said: “This is a really exciting opportunity for students to get involved with the community by providing exciting lessons for children of varying ages.”

Students will be given the opportunity to plan lessons of their choice, with a primary focus on English.

On the final day of the students’ visit, youngsters from Shubhakamana Academy put on a celebratory event involving singing and dancing, along with a lunch featuring local delicacies.

Miss Anderton added: “The visit to the school
really does make the trip very special and the St Mary’s and Baines students make lasting friendships with the Nepal children.”

Following the visit to the school the students will travel to the Chitwan National Park, where they can enjoy an amazing adventure involving a canoe trip with crocodiles, jungle walk and a visit to an elephant orphanage.

In order to raise money for the trip, which costs just over £2,000, students take part in a number of fund-raising events throughout the year, including race nights, quiz nights and bingo at local parishes as well as the annual ‘Walk The Lights’ event along Blackpool promenade.

Students also receive donations from local businesses to help fund this trip.
