Students' big performance at the Grand

This week will see more than 2,000 pupils from the resort take to the Grand Theatre stage over four nights of shows.

More children than ever before are taking part, and organiser Andrew White, from Blackpool Music Service, said the standard was higher than ever, with schools showing their competitive sides in the performances.

“As a music service, we run festivals and competitions, but this is the most competitive thing we do,” he said. “The schools’ pupils, teachers, all up their game every single year – we’ve have pyrotechnics and all sorts of things this year. And the props and costumes were stunning.

“Every school in the borough, baring two, is taking part, we’ve never had so many before, and there are more children from each school.

“The children’s support for each other is also second to none, which is very reassuring as far as I’m concerned.

“We had a fabulous opening night playing to a capacity house, which we have all week. We have such good support from all the parents and families too.”
