Students’ audience with ‘Mr Loophole’

Celebrity lawyer Nick Freeman will be speaking at Blackpool Sixth Form College and answering questions from more than 100 A-Level law students. During his visit, Mr Freeman – whose clients have included Sir Alex Ferguson and Jimmy Carr - will tell the teenagers about his route in to law, as well as giving them a flavour of some of his cases.

Nick was invited by the college’s Head of Humanities, Tracy Lowe, who said: “I sent a rather cheeky email to Nick’s office asking if he would consider coming to talk to our students about going for goals and making a mark in life.

“I finished by saying the most famous lawyer from Blackpool is George Carmen, so we are long overdue another one!”

Mr Freeman said: “Tracy’s reference to George Carmen was reason enough to take her up on her offer. The prospect of being questioned by a room full of A-Level students is a pretty daunting one, but, like all of my court-room appearances, I have prepared my case very carefully indeed.

“And when it comes to taking questions, I will have to be well and truly on top of my game.”

Mr Freeman has often used obscure matters of law to get charges against his high profile clients thrown out.

One of his most famous cases involved Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson in 1999. He argued that Mr Ferguson had been forced to use the hard shoulder on the way to United’s training camp because he was suffering from an upset stomach and needed the toilet.

Other clients have included Manchester United and England star David Beckham, explorer Ranulph Fiennes and rock star Van Morrison.
