He said although many young people initially think that politics is boring, it touches on every aspect of their lives and can be rewarding to take an active part.

He said: “This is a new group and we are keen to grow our membership.

“We are a social and political organisation that aims to attract young people, from 17 to 25, into politics. It’s a great way to meet like-minded individuals, attend social events and find out more about local and national politics.

“I’m pleased to say we have had fantastic support from our local Conservative MP Paul Maynard and from Coun Paul Galley and have already been busy helping with campaigning and other activities.

“I think it is important to engage young people politically and to ensure they have access to a broad and balanced range of political views.

“It is important we see more young people take part in the democratic process and ahead of the 2019 local elections I believe this is a crucial time to spark their interest. We want to use the group to engage young people and to help develop their skills and promote diversity.”

He said the group is aiming to highlight issues surrounding mental health as one of its first acts.
